MLEI undertook the structural engineering design for Zeiss’ massive new 4000m² facility in the Tonsley MAB (formerly the Main Assembly Building Mitsubishi Motors). These premises contain 120 Zeiss staff relocated from Lonsdale, and featured the Australian sales and service centre, a prescription laboratory, R&D team for vision care.

MLEI’s project scope included:

  • Assessment of existing slab and the below-slab tunnels frame to withstand the new building loads
  • Detailed design of suspended floors over existing pits
  • Detailed design of the superstructure including all columns, beams, lateral stability, roofing members, mezzanine level and any steel framing elements.
