Relocation of TWE’s Penfolds red winemaking capacity from the Nuriootpa site to the TWE Barossa Winery site near Stockwell, including upgrades to increase premium winemaking capacity by 33% – through improved production efficiencies and expanded wine storage capacity. Linney Engineering Services (part of the MLEI Group) undertook the design of the new site upgrades. We provided a full engineering and management service for the project including conceptual development, master planning, cost planning, detailed design, traffic management, tender documentation, contractor coordination and construction inspections.

The project scope included:

  • New 4,500m 2 x 16m high Icon Cellar building for housing winemaking equipment including crushing area with 2x receival bins, relocation of an existing bank of 56x 10T fermenters, construction of 36x 20T fermenters and 48x 10T fermenters and associated presses & marc handling equipment.
  • Construction of a new bank of 72x 25T fermenters, relocation of existing bank of 72x 25T fermenters
  • 4x new still wine storage tank farms and various smaller filtration building
  • Additional production line, processing infrastructure and additional barrel storage facilities
  • New heavy vehicle marshalling areas
  • Relocation of their existing weighbridge system.
