Salt water used in operation of the quench tower had contributed to significant deterioration of the concrete elements, which required assessment and remediation – portions of the structure were proposed to be modified with the workSteelws (beam removals). Check Flinders Ports tender

MLEI undertook the structural assessment required to determine the structural adequacy of the concrete elements, and the effectiveness of repairs for future serviceability of the tower.

Our scope of work included:
• Site inspection
• Analysis of the existing structure – including reviewing existing documentation, determining structural design actions, analysis of existing structure (as built), assessment of structure based on current condition, assessment of beam proposed to be removed and implications to the structure
• Review of Site Testing Plan
• Development of repair methodology to existing concrete elements
• Design Basis and Analysis report – detailing outcomes & recommendations from analysis
• Detailed Design for the recommended repair – pipe supports for the quench tower.
