DARWIN & PALMERSTON BUS STOP UPGRADES

LOCATION Darwin & Palmerston NT
CLIENT Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL)
DESCRIPTION 6x bus stop upgrades
PROJECT PERIOD 2020–2021
The DIPL had an ongoing program to install upgrades to existing bus stops and engaged MLEI to survey various bus-stops across Darwin and Palmerston in 2020 and provide detailed designs for their upgrades of shelter type 15A or 15B type. Each bus stop required civil design works including slab/shelter/seat placement, footpath layout, signage installation, TGSI, kerbing, pavement marking, existing services considerations, and area rehabilitation/grassing. Services also included detailed surveys, road safety audit, identification of services, AAPA sacred site clearance, and environmental risk assessment.
MLEI’s approach provided the following added values:
- **_Survey fee savings
_ ** MLEI developed early conceptual designs to enable DIPL to quickly identify locations that were unsuitable for the proposed shelter types. This saved survey fees for detailed surveys for shelters that were not suitable for the location, of $3,500 per survey. - **Improved safety and usability **
MLEI worked closely with DIPL to identify and implement 15B shelters which provided greater offset from the pedestrian way to the shelter columns. This provided more benefit to the end user from a safety and usability perspective.
