Project Overview

Transport for NSW engaged MLEI to deliver engineering services for the demolition of the heritage listed Barrington Bridge, a 1918 Allan timber truss bridge on Thunderbolts Way. The project required careful planning to safely dismantle the ageing structure while recognising its local heritage significance and the challenges associated with heavy timber construction. We provided engineering heritage assessments, demolition planning, finite element modelling, temporary works design, onsite engineering support and detailed demolition documentation.

Key Project Elements

  • Engineering heritage assessment undertaken in accordance with Section 170 requirements
  • Detailed demolition planning supported by comprehensive site investigations
  • Finite element modelling and 3D SPACE GASS structural analysis
  • Temporary works design to support staged bridge demolition
  • Feasibility assessment for the removal of cast iron shoes and bridge components
  • Propping design for bridge piers and timber truss spans during demolition
  • Onsite engineering support provided throughout demolition activities
