CMP-CUF New Southern Barge Ramp

The New Southern Barge Ramp is located within the Cairns Marine Precinct at the Port of Cairns. The project was developed to increase the region’s commercial and industrial maritime capacity, supporting vessels and barges up to 75m in length.

The barge ramp forms part of the broader Cairns Marine Precinct upgrade, which is intended to strengthen the port’s role as a maritime maintenance and overhaul hub for Northern Australia. It sits alongside other planned precinct improvements, including heavy-load bridge and road upgrades and the future Common User Facility with a proposed 5,000-tonne shiplift.

Our Role

Detailed design was undertaken for the facility’s three berthing and mooring dolphins. Each dolphin used a 2.10m diameter monopile.

To support efficient construction, the pile caps were prefabricated on shore to reduce over-water works. Each pile cap included a 2.10m diameter steel section with welded fender connection brackets and a 3.3m square concrete deck cast above.
