Fullarton Road Intersection
South Australia
Project Overview
The Fullarton Road and Glen Osmond Road intersection is one of Adelaide's busiest transport corridors, carrying approximately 58,000 vehicles each day and serving as a key commuter and freight route. Increasing traffic volumes and competing turning movements had reduced network efficiency and created ongoing safety challenges. MLEI provided civil engineering services to support the intersection upgrade, delivering practical design solutions that improved traffic capacity, enhanced road safety and increased network reliability. Our work also included the development and assessment of multiple concept options to accommodate evolving stakeholder requirements during the detailed design phase.
Civil Engineering
- Detailed civil engineering design completed to improve the operation of a major signalised intersection
- Lane geometry, horizontal alignment and turning paths designed to accommodate all vehicle types, including heavy vehicles
- Pedestrian ramps and accessible connections incorporated to improve safety and connectivity
- Drainage design integrated with the upgraded road layout and existing infrastructure
- Property impacts, acquisition requirements and constructability considerations assessed throughout the design process
Concept Design
- Five concept design options developed to assess alternative intersection layouts
- A new right turn movement was incorporated to respond to stakeholder requirements during detailed design
