Project Overview

Quezon Power Station in the Philippines is a 440 MW coal fired power plant which receives its coal supply in bulk carriers up to 80,000 DWT.

The marine facility associated with the power station consists of a coal unloader with a capacity of 1,400 t/hr, 228m long coal pier, 380m long access trestle, seven individual berthing dolphins and two mooring dolphins.

Madsen Giersing prepared an alternative design and later a full detailed design including drawings and specification.  The coal pier consists of a steel skeleton superstructure on vertical steel piles with four transverse strong points and one longitudinal strong point.

The access trestle consists of steel headstocks on steel piles with precast prestressed T-beams. Precast concrete deck units were used to provide vehicular access. Independent berthing dolphins are located under the coal pier superstructure.  The facility is designed to withstand typhoon and earthquake loadings.
