Stephen Street Stormwater Upgrade

South Australia

Project Overview

Beneath the planned streetscape was a tightly connected civil design problem. Road levels, shopfronts, driveways, buried services and an ageing stormwater system all met within a constrained town centre corridor. We redesigned Bonnars Lane on both sides of Stephen Street and resolved the road geometry, pavement, drainage and access interfaces needed to make the public realm design buildable. The work included a raised wombat crossing, asphalt pavement design, stormwater pits and connections, service depth coordination and driveway tie ins at Walker Street and Hutchinson Street. We also prepared the traffic impact statement and traffic control plan, reviewed Council’s geotechnical information and contributed to the Safety in Design process.

Engineering contribution

  • Set road levels and geometry around existing buildings, driveways, kerbs and adjoining streets
  • Designed pavement, stormwater drainage, pit lids and associated civil interfaces
  • Integrated the wombat crossing and raised treatments with drainage and access requirements
  • Reviewed Council’s geotechnical report and developed the asphalt pavement design
  • Prepared traffic documentation and supported service depth and Safety in Design coordination
