Sydney Harbour Bridge Arch
New South Wales
Project Overview
Maintaining the Sydney Harbour Bridge requires specialised access systems capable of reaching every part of the steel arch without compromising the integrity of one of Australia's most significant heritage structures. We provided independent engineering verification for the new Arch Maintenance Unit (AMU) system, supporting a bespoke solution that enables the safe inspection, maintenance and repainting of the bridge while meeting strict structural, operational and heritage requirements.
Engineering Verification
- Independently reviewed structural calculations, design drawings and engineering reports
- Verified the structural design using finite element modelling and engineering checks
- Assessed the design against Transport for NSW requirements and relevant engineering standards
- Participated in constructability and Safety in Design workshops throughout design development
Heritage and Technical Constraints
- Reviewed the design to ensure the AMU system could be installed without cutting or drilling into the heritage listed steel structure
- Verified compliance with the strict 71 tonne weight limit for each Arch Maintenance Unit
- Supported the delivery of a bespoke maintenance access system for one of Australia's most significant heritage assets
